Membrane Scale Control

Home/   Building services/   Reverse Osmosis/   Membrane Scale Control

Membrane scaling occurs when the concentration of a dissolved solid exceeds its solubility limit. Common scales found on the membranes in RO / NF systems include Reactive silica, calcium carbonate, and sulfate scales of barium, strontium and calcium. Barium and strontium sulfate scales are very low in solubility, making them virtually impossible to remove once they form on membranes. Scaling effects the entire system similar to fouling does with decreased productivity, increase in pressure drops throughout the system, increase in additional scaling / fouling, and reductions in product purity.

Scaling in RO / NF systems

Scaling in membranes usually occur in the last stage of the system.
Letting scale go untreated will result in system inefficiencies, increased natural resource consumption, higher utility bills and permanent system damage that con not be reversed.

Chemenergy will prevent the following problems from occurring with your RO / NF system:

- Prevent calcium carbonate scale formation
- Calcium phosphate formation prevention
- Barium sulfate and silica scale formation
- Scaling formation- Fouling

Chemenergy offers a full line of chemical membrane scale inhibitors which are designed for safe usage in your membrane system.
