Learn more >Propeylene Glycol is used in industrial / commercial applications and glycol systems. In a Glycol system, ethylene or a propylene glycol-water solution will be circulated throughout the building or through cooling/heating coils in an HVAC system. Glycol ensures space cooling/heating is supplied without the inherent risk of freeze damage.
Propeylene Glycol is considered "food safe". In certain applications that may have a chance of possible contact of the coolant with foods or beverages, Propylene Glycol that is NSF HTI rated should be the choice for the application. Information about this food safe substance can be obtained through the FDA. Please note ChillGuard is not NSF approved for NSF HTI testing and should not be used in applications where glycol may come into contact with food.
The Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) has listed Ethylene Glycol as a hazardous chemical. It has a reportable quantity ( RQ ) for spills consisting of 5,000 LBS or more. Propylene Glycol does not appear on this hazardous chemical list. If toxicity or immediate environmental concern is an issue, propylene glycol should be the product of choice for the application.
